We are currently recruiting for a Transport Manager at our Tilbury Range Centre


ROLE PURPOSE


Reporting directly to the Site Operations Manager, the Transport Manager has full P&L accountability for all transport activity with responsibility for all budgetary cost control, KPI target measurement attainment and resource management of both people and vehicles utilised within the Tilbury Range Centre transport operation.


To ensure  the correct level of resource is in place to cope with delivery volume and achieve levels of service to the customer within budgetary and time constraints.


To ensure full compliance to all company and legal requirements.


The Transport Manager will coordinate the activities required to meet company standards and focus on continuous improvement whilst contributing to the business strategy, and demonstrate the company values and behaviours.


To report on a regular basis to the Site Operations Manager on all aspects of the operation including finance, KPIs,  training and development and Health and Safety


Ability to work over a 24 hour window to provide flexibility across all shifts to cover for holidays and absence


To manage and oversee all aspects of the Transport Operation ensuring an efficient and smooth operation, achieving service levels within time and budgetary constraints.



PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES


1.       Plan and control daily/weekly resource requirements. Assess priorities, identifying any problem areas and react accordingly.  Arrange that branch cut off times are adhered to and maintained for both replenishment and next day orders


2.        Ensure that you and your team operate in accordance with company policy, procedures and legislative requirements.  Initiate and be involved in appropriate training, retraining, counselling and disciplinary procedures where necessary to avoid failure of colleagues to reach accepted standards or targets.


3. Arrange vehicles and trailers are inspected and maintained as per agreed schedule and in accordance with goods vehicle operator's licence requirements.  Ensure Moffett MHE is serviced in line with schedule and that all defects are rectified promptly and documented accordingly and compliance is kept up to date in line with DVSA and company policy.



4.       Establish  effective systems for the issue/retrieval of driver tachograph information and the prompt downloading of driver digital cards. Ensuring that driver tachograph infringements are dealt with promptly to avoid the likelihood of recurrence.


5.       Ensure that transport related risk assessments, training records, driver license, compliance to lone working arrangements and other health & safety documentation is checked periodically. Follow up actions as necessary.


6.       Assist in the recruitment and training of new staff.  Ensure induction training for all new starters and agency workers is carried out within your area of responsibility.


7.       Provide integrity of wage payments through correct use of time and attendance system. Authorise and control holiday dates issue for transport team members reporting to you ensuring adequate cover during periods of peak volume. Monitor sickness, absence and timekeeping of your team through counselling sessions and return to work interviews.


8.       Monitor and control stocks of transport related consumables, bulbs, trailer connections, Adblue, etc. Identify areas for reducing fuel usage across the fleet. Monitor and control transport department expenditure and provide commentary as requested by Site Operations Manager.


9.       Attend any training/development sessions as part of your own career/personal development and undertake project work from time to time as directed by senior management.


10.     Any other duties as may be assigned to meet the varying needs of the business.



You will need to be National Road Haulage CPC qualified
