What you'll do

This is a hybrid role with occasional travel requirements to our office in Bridgwater, Somerset or our Distribution Centre in Northampton, Pineham

Are you ready to embark on a new challenge that gives you the chance to Join our dynamic retail business as the Senior Category Manager?  You will  lead a customer focused commercial team and be responsible for a selection of categories that has end to end P&L responsibility. Building and executing strategies across the categories that will optimise and maximise the performance of the area, by both aligning to the company and customer strategy and delivering against the category roles and intent. 

Day to Day


Confident at taking ownership of the  P&L for the product areas?
Able to build customer first strategies to optimise the performance of your categories?
To Support and develop a high performing team, build effective structures for working effectively together and have clear accountabilities?
Able to demonstrate thought leadership beyond your immediate category expertise that will drive the business forward?
Confidently Live and represent the cultural values in your approach to internal, supplier and customers alike?


You will also need to be able to:

Identify clear customer journeys across all channels and work cross category and cross functionally to build and execute them effectively

Understand the needs of the customer, develop range, promotional and campaign plans that meet the goals and objectives of the business through proposition leadership 

Build an expert understanding of the customer/retail market and the category performance within it.

Obtaining market insight and competitor intelligence on existing and forthcoming products to support the company growth strategy. 

Conduct competitor analysis, review marketing intelligence and competitor's marketing activity in regard to range, pricing and propositions to ensure competitiveness on a monthly basis.


What you'll bring

With experience of Category Management (it would be great if you came from a Retail background), excellent negotiation and influencing skills you will have confidence in your ability and be able to take in information from a variety of sources in order to maximise our commercial success. You’ll also have:


A strong commercial mind and an instinct for a deal
Great communication skills - working with our suppliers, branch and sales teams and with all levels of our organisation 
Ability to juggle multiple projects at any one time and cut through complexity
An eye for numbers - analytical and problem solving
Ability to influence and negotiate to ensure we are getting the best deals for our customers, always
Able to inspire and support those working around you, both direct and indirect reports and be a strong team player with experience of cross-functional working
Show resilience and tenacity
